Do you have days where you are feeling energized and on fire, and then have other days where you can’t seem to muster up the energy to get anything done? Or maybe you have days where you are feeling really good about your life in general and other days where all you can see and think about are negative things. This is not an uncommon human experience and it is also not something that is completely outside of your control.
Your energy and whether you are feeling positive or negative overall is tied to your thoughts and your mindset. Often we think these things are tied to situations happening around us, or to what other people are doing to us, however, this is never the case. Things happening around you can spark thoughts, but it is always your thoughts that create your feelings. This is important to note because this means that if you change what you are thinking, you can change how you are feeling. When you are intentional about this, you can create habits around the way you think so that thoughts that serve you become your automatic or default thinking patterns.
Have you ever experienced someone who, no matter what you say, will want to focus on the negative side of things? Perhaps you find that you do this yourself. It can feel instinctive to automatically go to the worst-case scenario, or to something negative, even when there are also positive things happening. This can certainly be an energy zapper and if you sit in this negative energy, it can continue to weigh you down and result in more negative thoughts, and therefore more negative feelings. This can become a negative thinking loop that can feel challenging to break free from.
If you are looking to increase your positive energy, try one or more of the strategies listed below. The goal with these strategies is to change what you are thinking or focusing on, which will change how you are feeling. When you do this consistently, you are taking control of your brain and telling it that you don’t want to spend a lot of time thinking about negative things or worst-case scenarios, and over time, you will create better thinking habits that will result in more positive energy.
Whether you wake up in the morning feeling less than great, or something happens during the day that brings you down, know that you have the control to make yourself feel better. You can decide that you are not going to sit with negative thoughts and negative energy, and then take action to change what you are thinking and how you are feeling. When you learn how to do this consistently, you not only experience better emotions overall, but you also feel more confident and empowered.
